First Look at Youth
Matisyahu's new studio album "Youth" is due in stores March 7, but my review copy came in a few days early, so I'm listening as I work. Since his big breakout was the "Live at Stubbs" album, we already know he can rap, beatbox and his band can play a genuine reggae rhythm and not have to fake it with studio tricks. Some of that organic vibe is missing from "Youth," as it seems a lot of the Matisyahu energy we heard before came from feeding off a live audience. The good news is he didn't cop out by re-recording a bunch of old stuff. This is mostly new, save for the studio version of "King Without a Crown," which is missing some of the live version's punch. Expect a full review in Calendar soon. posted by Jason Kellner at 11:01 AM
